Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond
Donggung was a secondary palace of the Shilla kingdom, used by the crown prince and for royal banquets and important guests. Wolji Pond was created in the 7th century during the reign of King Munmu, after Shilla unified much of the Korean Peninsula. The pond was carefully designed so that you can never see the entire shoreline from one spot, making it feel larger than it really is.
For many years, the site was known as Anapji. Excavations in the 1970s uncovered tens of thousands of artifacts, and three pavilions were rebuilt along the water based on the original foundations.

By Day: A Quiet Royal Garden
In daylight, the grounds feel calm and green, with willow trees, small islands, and the pavilions standing at the edge of the pond. It is a peaceful place for a slow walk before the evening crowds arrive.

By Night: Gyeongju's Most Famous View
When the lights come on, the pavilions glow gold and their reflections appear on the still water like a mirror. This is the view that appears on countless Gyeongju postcards. Walk slowly along the shoreline path, as the scene changes at every turn.

Woljeonggyo Bridge
Woljeonggyo is a covered wooden bridge with gate pavilions at both ends, crossing the Namcheon Stream. A bridge stood here during the Shilla period, and records say it was built in the 8th century under King Gyeongdeok. After years of research and restoration, the bridge was rebuilt in 2018, bringing its grand Shilla design back to life.

By Day: Walk Across the Bridge
You can walk through the covered bridge and look out over the stream from inside. The bridge sits right next to Gyochon Hanok Village, so it is easy to combine both in one stroll.

By Night: A Glowing Bridge Over the Water
After dark, the bridge lights up and its reflection stretches across the stream. Head down to the stepping stones and riverside paths for the best angle of the whole bridge and its reflection.
