[왕사남] Legal Battle Over Alleged Plagiarism of 16-Million Viewer Hit
Director Jang Hang-jun's highly successful film 'The Man Who Lived with the King' (Wangsa-nam), which has recorded over 16.86 million viewers, is currently embroiled in a plagiarism controversy. The family of the writer for the 2000s drama 'Eom Heung-do' filed for an injunction to ban the film's screening, claiming it plagiarized their script. On May 19, the Seoul Western District Court's Civil Division 21 held a hearing where the film's production companies—Onda Works, BA Entertainment, and distributor Showbox—denied the allegations, asserting that the film contains no substantial similarities in character relationships or narrative, and that historical facts are not subject to copyright protection.
